The Rich Report
May 2, 2012
Hello from GA, USA. Carla and I returned to the states
earlier than planned on April 10th because of my dad’s poor health.
He went home to be with our Savior on April 13th. We are all
saddened at his absence from us but consoled that we know we will see him
again. Thank you all for your prayers on our behalf.
Great news… On March 25th we entered our new building! We still have a few things to complete but we are in! We had 147 in attendance in our first service and baptized one new member. Since then there have been five others baptized in our new baptistery. Another church in a neighboring city borrowed our baptistery so the pastor could baptize his own father and sister on the same day. Just as we moved into the building, the government began construction on the park in the lot next to us that they have been promising for years! Coincidence? I don’t think so.
The Bible distribution has begun! Another missionary and I took out all of the seats in our van and loaded up 2900 lbs of God’s Word. We took a trip from the mountains where we live, up the coast and into Ecuador. We gave out Carla’s homemade chocolate/peanut butter cookies to toll booth attendants, police officers and gas station attendants along with tracts to each one. What a sweet God we serve! We also experienced a strong earthquake/tremor while in one hotel in northern Peru. We were able to deliver over two thousand bibles plus tracts, John/Romans and toothbrushes that had been donated by a work group that came to visit us in March. The national pastors who received them were so grateful for this blessing to their ministries. We have now received requests from at least eight other countries and are working on the details for shipping to them. Many more nationals have been sent bibles inside of Peru with new requests coming in almost daily. While delivering several cases of bibles to some pastors we were approached by Jehovah’s Witnesses. We had an interesting discussion about the purity of the Holy Word of God and the falsehoods taught from a corrupt bible.
More good news (at least for me)! Carla and I celebrated our thirty year wedding anniversary on April 23rd. We plan to celebrate by visiting our son and daughter-in-law in Oregon for a few days.
Our Mobile Ministry is always hindered during the rainy season but we were able to move one meeting indoors recently while showing a video for a national pastor. There was a good turnout despite the rain. We also showed the “Courageous” video during “Holy Week” in our new church building. We had 62 in attendance. Several were in tears. What a great teaching tool for a country with many fathers who abandon their families. There are even signs on the highways that say (translated) “Don’t run Daddy, your family needs you!”
Parting story: I went to the doctor to have him look at my hurting shoulder. His office is across the street from the vet that we use. Across the hall from his office is the x-ray room where I took our dog to have x-rays years ago. The doctor, dressed in jeans, gave me the “list” of what he needed and sent me to the pharmacy… 3 needles, cortisone, lidocaine and rubber gloves. The office visit was $18.67 and the meds were $16.06. This brought us to a whoppin’ total of $34.73. At least mine was a trauma doctor and not a vet! May God bless you all for your faithful support of our ministry.
Serving Him for You in Peru,
Don & Carla Rich
