This year will soon be past. Only what we’ve done for Christ will last.
November 5, 2010
Carla and I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and a merry Christmas as we enter into the last two months of the year. God has blessed each month of this year and these last two months were no exception.
Our Peruvian youth group has provided three meals for our church recently to help them raise funds for their mission trip in January. They are excited and looking forward to serving our Lord in this capacity.
In September Carla started a ladies Bible study that meets two mornings each week. It is well attended and the ladies enjoy the fellowship and intimate time with the Lord.
I (Don) started a Youth SS class. Our youth wanted more so we are giving it to them. This is our 4th SS class. We are having it early before the other classes because there are no more rooms available. We need the new building NOW!
Also in September, I had the privilege to preach for the 2nd Anniversary of Iglesia Bautista de Puylucana, Matt & Sarah Burns’ first work. Matt had recently led a self-proclaimed witch to the Lord. She came to the service and brought her sister Sylvia. The sister raised her hand for salvation during the invitation. Matt followed up the next day in her home. Sylvia and her husband Danilo both accepted Christ as their Savior!
I was invited to preach at a conference in Paraguay by Missionary Mike Wilps. God blessed the week and we saw around forty saved and six baptized. I personally was privileged to lead six to the Lord. One purpose for this trip was to get ideas for planning our Bible Conference next year. Also, I was able to meet missionaries to whom I will be distributing bibles when they arrive. I went to get some money from an ATM in Paraguay. I made a withdrawal of 250,000 Guarani which is equal to $52 in American money. What an exchange rate! The Paraguayans speak two languages, Spanish and Guarani. Guarani sounded like a beautiful Polynesian language.
At the end of September, I was asked to preach during a Prophecy Conference for Iglesia Bautista Ancla, Missionary Shane Rice’s work in Cajamarca. It is always a blessing to study, teach and preach on the Last Days.
We had a special visitor, Pastor Juan Cubas, come be with us for five days. He is a Peruvian national pastoring in the USA. He is originally from Peru and was the first to tell us about the area of Cajamarca. This was a seed planted that blossomed into our calling to this area. We enjoyed his visit and preaching while he was with us.
Recently, with the help of several from our church, we passed out 800 invitations and around 1500 tracts one morning in the city of Jesus where we have our Bible Study on Thursday nights. Please pray for this work that God would have His way and that we would have wisdom in the direction of this ministry.
We have seen seven more saved in the past two months! We have had five saved in our church. One of those was a long-time neighbor who came to church for the first time. Two more were saved in the Bible Study in Jesus.
For our recent youth Saturday we had a Scavenger Hunt where the teens, using clues from the Bible, took pictures around our little town of the items needed to win. It was a fun time for all.
Building Program Update - As I type, the workers are preparing to stucco the final long outside wall. What a blessing to see it at this stage. We are earnestly praying that God will provide so that we can complete the building by next August.
Question: Are you called to be a missionary director of a Christian School? We are praying for someone of like faith and values who can oversee this part of our ministry. There’s no room to write it all here. If interested, please contact us.
May God bless each of you who support us through prayers and giving. Thank you for another year of partnering together to reach lost souls in Peru.
Serving Him for You in Peru,
Don Rich & family
