Dear Pastors, Praying Friends, and Family
I look forward to writing each prayer letter to let you know how God continues to bless. It is a great privilege to be serving our Lord for you here in Peru and communication with you is very important to us.
Let me begin with a great praise for our Lord. Carla’s mother, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at Christmas, was told recently that she was “cancer free”! The doctor is still keeping a close watch, but he could find no cancer. We want to thank those of you who have been praying for her and praise God for this miracle. Keep up the prayers!
In February, we had two Peruvian seminary students come stay in our home for over a month. They came to learn more about hands-on ministry. They were a blessing to have with us and we hope to host more students in the future.
Eighteen members of our church helped over the course of two weekends to pass out over three thousand tracts. This was to announce our new EVENING SERVICE which started on March 5th. The services have been great and I have started using these night services to teach a discipleship series on the “Basics of Christianity”. There has been a great response and they show a hunger to learn. Several asked to have a picnic with a time to sing hymns after the second weekend of passing out tracts. What a sweet time of fellowship! It does a heart good to have a church that wants to do the work and wants to fellowship and sing for God’s glory. Now that we have 2 services, they are asking when we will start the third!
I started teaching an English class in April to draw more attention to the church and to reach more souls for Christ. The classes are going well and we have several non-church goers attending. New prospects! Being from GA, I’m teaching the basics like Hey, how y’all! That dawg won’t hunt, over yunner, taters, maters, etc. Please pray for the Peruvians under my tutelage.
Carla started a Thursday Night Ladies Meeting on April 20. It has grown each week and the ladies are really excited. They are learning more of the Bible and their responsibilities as Christian women. They pray together and even learn new recipes. They love to learn how to cook American food and Carla is learning more of their cuisine. I get the benefits of both. One day, the ladies planned, prepared, and brought refreshments to the workers at the new church site. What a blessing!
On April 23, Carla and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary! We want to say thanks to all of you who sent cards or emails. Our church here surprised us with a decorated sanctuary, testimonies, and cake. We miss celebrating with our family back in GA, but God has given us a loving church family here and for that we are thankful.
Building program update - We signed a contract on the 10th of April to begin the next phase and started construction on the 17th. It had been raining almost everyday for months. On the day of the signing, the rainy season stopped! The construction is progressing well and we hope to complete this phase within the next month. Please consider whether God would have you help us in our building program. We don’t want to stop because of the lack of funds. If you can’t help financially, please pray that God would provide the need. If you need an idea of how you could help, please let us know.
I held off from sending this letter for one more day so I could report on our third baptismal service. We had a total of Six baptized! There are five new photo albums on our web site which include today’s baptism. Take a look!
We would love it if some of you would plan a group to come visit this year. Contact us for details if you are interested.
May God continue to bless each of you for your faithfulness in prayer and support of our mission here in Cajamarca.
Serving Him for You in Peru,
Don Rich & family
